Update to accommodate Mobile Chip Upgrade to 4G

Chip Upgrade Strengthens Partnership

NovaSom is a leader in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) home testing. Their AccuSom® medical device allows patients to take a sleep apnea test in the comfort of their own home while sleeping in their own bed. Each day, the device sends sensor data back to the NovaSom office over a mobile network. A physician can then review the results and prescribe treatment as needed.

SDP began our partnership with NovaSom more than 15 years ago when they were still a medical startup pioneer. We were part of the team that built majority of their technology platform. Even after NovaSom received additional funding and brought a majority of development in house, they continued to rely on SDP for software support in a few key applications.

NovaSom needed to upgrade the mobile chipset in the AccuSom® device, as the previous chipset was discontinued. However, the new hardware chipset had slightly different interface specifications than the previous version. NovaSom engaged SDP to work with them and the hardware manufacturer to complete the upgrade.

SDP collaborated with the NovaSom project lead and the hardware manufacturer to review the interface changes, update the device software and thoroughly test the device. NovaSom gave SDP a device with the new chipset to use for initial testing. Once we passed initial testing in our office, a more formal testing procedure took place.  We also worked with NovaSom to complete FDA documentation to ensure compliance.

Competitive Edge

Our IoT, Mobile Solutions and Software Development capabilities gave NovaSom a competitive edge. They were able to move forward with manufacturing additional devices with the new chipset, allowing their business to continue to expand.
